Well this turned out a fantastic brew , was on 5th gen Vermont ale yeast . First time using BeerSmith 3 for salt additions. Mouthfeel is perfect , I have found that Vermont ale yeast can give off a perceived sweetness but this one is spot on. I dry hopped a few points shy instead of post fermentation like I normally do . Aroma is nearly non existent unfortunately , other than that a cracking beer
I'd suggest you either dry hopped too late or introduced oxygen during packaging.
As the recipe advises:
As always with hop-forward beers, pay special attention to oxygen uptake post fermentation as the hop aroma can quickly degrade if you are not careful.
I pressure ferment and Usually pressure transfer to a seperate keg with hops for a few days and then pressure transfer again to serving keg. THis brew was done a little different were I added hops close to the end of fermentation , for me personally now I have some extra kegs I will go back to adding dry hops post fermentation seems to add way more aroma in my findings
how do you purge the keg with the hops in, to ensure there's no oxygen uptake?
I have kegs that are hooked to pressure fermenter that are hopefully full of c02 , post ferment I’ll quickly open dump in hops and flush with co2 again . I seem to get way more aroma this way , I usually leave for 3 to 5 days and then transfer off of hops to another co2 flushed keg for serving . Experimenting a little now with actually leaving hops in keg . Except for galaxy that I find grassy if left in keg
happy: I was given a co2 and nitrogen mix bottle and I'm trying to find any info on psi and time to properly carbonate with this mix. Any clues please? Thanks Happy
