Ok I had the app password wrong in the setup. The status still says disconnected IP 0,0,0,0 but now I can see it in the app. Nothing showing yet so Ill do a test run with some water later and see what happens.
Davide says its probably an incorrect password/username which makes sense but ive checked them all about 20 times each and still no luck. Yep it is pissing me off a bit.
The other thing was that the firmware update reset all of my setting so I had to go back and set it all up again. Not easy to remember whats going on when you haven't looked at it in 2 years or so. Doing a brew now and it wont reach temp. goes within 1c and then stops. Lucky Im in manual mode.

I've got mine connected to the app and it works. One problem I had though is the tutorial isn't clear.
In the mode wifi, 'ap', when you go to 192.168.4.1 and the landing page appears. Under the ssid this is your wireless network name and password. I used 2 devices for this, my phone, which I have the ap on. And a tablet with the tutorial open.
Hope this is the problem you've been having.
I've just got a problem with element wiring as they aren't turning on. The way these machines are wired is different to the tutorial Davide has supplied. My auto electrical skills from when I was a mechanic have served me well but I've got something wrong. I'll have another look at this when I don't have a skinfull.
nosco if can take a couple of pics of the way you wired your guten up that would be helpful.
Yeah I have the SSID and password setup for my internet modem ID and password but still no luck
As for your element wiring thats probably because it has been set back to defaults for the firmware update. If you go into to status mode (put some water in your pot) and scroll down the "outputs" you can tell what its wired up to. Press the green button to turn them on and off. By default it must be set to DR1 and relay 1 for the pump. For my Guten the element is DR2 and the pump is Relay2. Go in to the hardware set up to change them.
Yep I had the elements wired up wrong. All good now. Just did a auto tune so I know it's all working.
Now to go through the settings to work out how to set it up for the next brew day.
Just out of curiosity, nosco how much water did you have in the vessel to run the auto tune, or did you not do one? I did it with 15 litres as that's around what I'd normally mash with.
IMHO, a better way to do the auto tune is after you've done your actual brew mash and your tun is drained, fill it up with your nominated volume of water, in your case 15L, then set the grain bed and begin recirculating then start the auto tune. Why not tune your system with the best case scenario? #winkysmileyface

Finally got a chance to do a brew today and use the smart pid for the first time. Had a problem with the app not talking to the pid, i did forget my pw for the app and had to reset it so not sure if that was the problem but the more I tried to fix it the worse it got. Now I can't add a new device without the app crashing. Sent a message to Davide so hopefully he can help.
Now the good stuff. It worked very well, held the temp much better than the original guten controller. The temp was over and under the target by .5c. When I finished the boil l put the full malt pipe back in and ran the auto tune again. Checked to see how it went after that and it was .2-.3c under and over the target. Much better than the 3-4c the original controller was doing.
The auto tune settings are this now. nosco what are your settings and did you have a link for that tutorial for manually tuning?
Haven't used it for the last 2 brews but from memory it was about .3 +-. But I've said that before after watching it at mash in and intermittently only to find after paying more attention it was going 3deg +-. That was after an auto tune. Usually over stepping I think.
Since the element on my big kettle has blown ill be using it more so I'll pay attention now.

Yeah. I had it working when l installed the pid but forgot the app pw. Then when l did a pw reset that's when it stopped working. I've realised since that the pw for the app needs to be the same as the MQTT settings in the smart pid. It's a bit of a fiddly setup. But when it's working it works well.
I'm looking forward to see how the brewfather software will intergrate with the smart pid. Looks like you'll be able to send the mashprofile and boil/hop schedule straight to the pid once you've created the recipe.
