Decided it was time to update my avatar with a more recent picture - one from my trip to Japan. At Nihombashi brewery they serve their IPA in what they call sake style. The glass sits in a cypress pine box, both the glass and the box are filled with beer. After you've drunk about half of the glass you tip the rest into the box and leave it for several minutes before drinking it from the box. It definitely tasted different out of the box, probably partly as it had lost some carbonation but also of the wood - whether it had imparted flavour to the beer or you could just smell the wood as the box was near your nose. In any case it was an interesting experience.
Also had their sour which was very good and a fruit beer. After I ordered the fruit beer the guy gave me a taster of it and their session IPA. Maybe he was thinking the fruit beer would not be to my taste but it was also good, and it was good to see that they don't care about clarity for that beer.
Also managed a quick pop in to Hitachino Nest for a tasting paddle. The wit was the stand out as it was super fresh. From drinking Hoegaarden and other wits I've like the style but never been a huge fan in that I could never be bothered to actually make one. This one was sensational and a wit is now on my brewing list.
