As part of the Vicbrew committee's succession planning, we're looking for someone prepared to step-up & learn/take-on the role of Chief Steward from me.
I'll be blunt & honest with you - it's a toughie! Next to the Competition Organiser, it's the most responsible role when it comes to running the competition & you can't back-off until the job is completely finished.
Whilst there will be no formal "interview" for the position, you'll need to get heavily involved with (& earn the trust of) the Committee to take-on the role by proving your worth over several years before I'll relinquish the role to you...... I will have have ultimate veto if you're unsuitable for the role or lack the self-confidence to carry it.
1. Dedicated to the job & self-motivated.
2. Ability to lead, motivate & organise a team of people of varying capacity.
4. Flexible. This is a biggie!
5. A loud voice to tell people to "SHUT THE FUCK UP" if needed.
6. A sense of humour (another biggie). )
Someone with an ex-military background would be perfect for this role, but I'll consider someone who hasn't jumped from 500ft with gear, at night.....
I know I've been doing the job for a long time & might make it look easy, but that's just 'cos I've been doing it for a long time & got used to it.
I still get nervous as hell before we start, but I'm confident I can bring the team together & make it happen. That's the kind of person I'm looking-for.
Believe me, I made a lot of mistakes & bad decisions early-on when I started, but all those have been ironed-out, so anyone taking-on the role will benefit from my previous fuck-ups.
I've written a document/guide for anyone who wants to read it & will happily guide/mentor them into the job. It's not like I'm just bailing & leaving it to someone else to pick-up the pieces. I intend to be around for awhile yet. This is just succession planning.
It just takes self-confidence (without being arrogant), organisation & commitment to get the competition to a successful conclusion.
Adam (the incumbent) has developed a young family that is taking-up a lot of his time & can't commit to the job any more, which is why this thread was started.

So my take away from this is, your going to start base jumping and just in case something goes side ways (or in this case doesn't open) you thought you'd cover your butt at Vicbrew so we all don't miss out on a great event and opportunity to share some awesome brews.
I don't care what 'they' say about ya Martin, in my book yer a good egg.
BTW wing suits are the hip thing these days ...so ...
I'm not taking-up B.A.S.E. jumping (I did enough of that sort of stuff when I was still young & stupid enough to think I was bullet-proof).
This is succession planning & it's been discussed by the VICBREW committee as a way of carrying the competition organisation forward.
There's been a hard-core of blokes that have been doing the same thing for years & we're like a well-oiled machine, but we need some younger blokes to come on board & learn the ropes & make sure that the competition organisation stays at its current level of "lubrication".
We don't bite & will welcome anyone who wants to join the group & maintain the level of commitment we've developed to the competition, bring new ideas & carry it forward.
Ego's can be left at the door.
We also enjoy a few beers together during some occasionally "heated" discussions, but that's just part of the fun & we all respect one-another.
It's a great group to be part of & the time involved is pretty minimal, as we do a lot of correspondence/discussion via emails.
Once the rubber hits the road, however, it's 100% commitment.
Are you in?

As the former ‘Martin understudy’ I can tell you that while it can be hard work at times, running the comp is quite a bit of fun. The reason I have had to vacate the position is that I have two young boys who I am having to devote more time to as they are getting bigger (especially on weekends). I realised I’m just not in a position to be the next Martin anytime soon, so better to find someone while there is plenty of time to get the hang of it. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the role.

Lord Raja Goomba I: Why do so many people think "newer is better" with kegs, when the cheap Chinese junk that come from KL/KK are thin, rubbish quality and the older American and West German ones are clearly better quality. 😱😤
