Hi all, heading over to Washington DC for a couple of weeks in the school holidays. If anyone has any brewery recommendations in DC, Virginia, or Maryland I'd love to hear them. Otherwise Google will be my friend.
Cheers, Ken

I don’t know about that particular area but if you get a chance to venture a little further, check out Dogfish Head in Delaware.

Made it to DC...27 hours door to door with two kids (9 & 12) in tow. SWMBO was already here working and had the fridge stocked but I'll save that for the pro craft in the glass thread. First 'Brewery' was Capitol City Brewing Company. I'm not even sure if they brew on site as it seemed more like a standard sports bar: booths around the room perimeter and stools at a big island bar. Only two beers to their name, a kolsch and an amber ale. The kolsch was nice enough, the amber ale my preferred beer (maybe just because I like the style better. With Columbus and Cascade probably hard to go too wrong, it was a very nice beer, happy but with pretty good balance. There's a pumpkin ale (Alewerks Brewing, Virginia) pictured with the amber, it's a popular style here at the moment, definitely pumpkin season. Not really my cup of tea though. online photo host

Day 2 and most of the day was spent at the Air and Space Museum (best museum ever). I then dragged the family through the metro and into the ghetto to find Red Bear Brewery. In my defense I didn't realise it was in the ghetto (cue Cartman version) This was more like the genuine article with 15 beers on tap and shiny shiny stainless in addition to casks with airlock in full view. I'm boring in my selections at the moment with a paddle of hoppy pales (one red ale) and ipas. The beers were high quality with my personal picks the Mystic Storm 'both coasts IPA' (Citra, Amarillo, and Cascade) and their IPA fermented with kviek yeast, a Nordic IPA...first I've ever tasted using one of these yeasts. Impressive place with a massive selection of board and card games which kept the ratbags (partially) entertained. As a hairy ginger I completely fit the 'Red Bear' mould...although I'm not gay (not that there's anything wrong with that)
