Hi all, haven't brewed in a while and was gonna kick things off again with a XXXX bitter clone. I've got some Aussie Cluster in the freezer but was gonna get some more as I use it in multiple recipes. Problem is, no-one seems to have it in stock. I also found a reference that it is no longer grown in Australia. Is this correct? If so what are XXXX using now? Any substitution suggestions?
I managed to get some from Craftbrewer a few months ago but it looks like they're sold out now. Also interested in the answer to this question both for XXXX style and it's also used in some of the Bronzed Brews beers
The site looks way more user friendly compare to what it was in the past which is a good thing.
I’d say they’re more tailored to supplying businesses. However, in times like these it would be worth reaching out as any business is good business. They also lost their processing facility a year or two back during the fires so I’d hope they’d be open to home brewers supporting them directly.
XXXX has, for quite a while, used superpride as the bittering hop with Golden Cluster as a "flourish" ... I can't perceive much hop character in XXXX heavy at all nowadays, unlike the pretty good version back in the 1970s when it could hold its head up alongside many Euro lagers. I doubt if using a bit of US Cluster would make much of a difference.
